Montero belonging to Ministry found at ex-PC member’s residence

A luxury vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Economic Development has been found hidden at a property owned by a former UPFA North Western Provincial Council member in Madurankuliya.

The vehicle, a Mitsubishi Montero, was found by Mundalama Police, acting on information received.  

Police officer had visited the property last night to carry out a search of the house, however were unable to enter due to the padlocked gate.

They had returned to the residence in the Kadayamatte area in Madurankuliya at around 5.00am this morning managed to seize the vehicle after opening the gate.

The owner of the property, a former UPFA North Western Provincial Councilor who had contested and lost at last year’s election, had claimed that the vehicle was given to him by a Deputy Minister in the previous government.

He had also confessed that the vehicle was used by him for campaigning activities during the recent Presidential Election. Police have recorded a statement from the ex-Provincial Councilor while the vehicle in question has been taken into custody by Mundalama Police.
