Police seize 60,000 liquor bottles in 4 lorries, 8 arrested

Police arrested eight suspects for the illegal possession of 60,000 bottles of locally-produced liquor, found inside four lorries in the Dematagoda area.  

Officers of the organized crime and anti-vice unit of the Police Headquarters yesterday (17) carried out a special operation at No. 758 in Baseline Road, Colombo (between Orugodawatta Junction and Samantha Junction).

During the operation police officer discovered close to 60,000 bottles of liquor, brewed by the ‘Wayamba Distilleries’ company, and stored without proper documentation inside 4 lorries.

Eight suspects, residents of Dematagoda, have been arrested in connection with the find while the lorries containing the bottles have been sealed. The Department of Excise is to carry out further investigations today.
