Police in Malaysia on Sunday detained more than 100 foreigners, including two Sri Lankans, at the Melaka Sentral bus terminal in Peringgit for their alleged illegal stay in the East Asian country, media reports said.

Among the illegal migrants six are women, according to a report by The Star Online Malaysia.

Malacca Immigration director Mahpof Mahmood said the 100 comprised 32 Indonesian men and six women, 17 Bangladeshi men, 16 Nepalese men, 11 Myanmar men, eight Pakistani men, four Indian nationals and two men each from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and the Philippines.

He said they were among 550 foreigners aged between 20 and 55, screened at the terminal.

Mahpof said in the five-hour operation that started at 10am, all of them were inspected while coming out of the domestic bus centre.

“They came from all parts of Malacca for leisure and to catch up with friends on weekends,” he told reporters here.

He said they had committed various offences including entering and residing in the country without valid passes or permits or possessing fake documents.
