SLFP to propose new reforms to 19 A

April 1, 2015   04:33 pm

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) on Wednesday (1) said that it will propose new reforms to the draft bill on the 19th Amendment.

Former Minister and SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa made the observation at a press conference held in Colombo.

“New amendments demonstrate that the Executive President is no longer the chief of the Government. There is a moot point as it attempts to switch several executive powers to the Prime Ministerial post. We will have to discuss this problematic situation,” Yapa Said.

He pointed out that despite some 26 SLFP members took oath as Ministers, the opposition is still strong and the new government will not be able to gain two third majority in a bid to pass the bill, without their backing.
