Major parties should agree on reasonable power devolution - Kiriella

The major political parties in the country should agree on reasonable devolution of power to the North and East, says Minister of Plantation Industries Lakshman Kiriella.

Speaking at an event in Kandy today, the UNP Parliamentarian stated that never before has he seen a government which has accomplished so much within the first 100 days since coming to power.

He stated that good governance has now been established in the country and that world leaders are competing to visit Sri Lanka, which was avoided by heads of state during certain periods.

Mr Kiriella also stated that Parliament will be dissolved next month and that following the General Election a National Government will be established.

He emphasized that a National Government is not only about sharing ministerial portfolios and that all political parties should face the country’s issues from one position.

He warned that failing to do so would result in a host of problems in the future, one of them being the North and East issue.

The minister said that the two main political parties in the country should come together and agree on reasonable power revolution as a solution of the North-East issue and that the two parties should also face the war crimes issue together.
