Kotakethana double murder: AG appeals against the verdict

June 15, 2015   04:00 pm

The Attorney General on Monday (15) appealed the Court of Appeal to reconsider the verdict issued by the Colombo High Court in the 2012 murder of a mother and daughter in Kotakethana, Kahawatta.

The Colombo High Court last month acquitted the three accused in the case due to lack of evidence.

Delivering its verdict on the high-profile case today, the court stated that the evidence against the three suspects was insufficient to tie them to the murders.

Namal Chaminda de Silva, Sisira Priyantha Kumara and Lokugam Hewage Ruchira are the three accused in the case.

The Attorney General instituted legal action against the three accused over the murder of Liyanarachchige Premawathi (63) and her daughter Hewagamage Pushapakumari (33).

They were found murdered and burned in their house on June 17, 2012 at Kotakethana, Ratanpura.
