The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested yet another suspect who allegedly involved in the election-related shooting incident in Kahawatta during the last presidential polls in January.

A police source said that the suspect was apprehended in Kahathuduwa area in Piliyandala on Saturday (20) evening.

Earlier, the CID arrested and remanded former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekara in connection with the incident as well.

On January 5, the Pelmadulla Magistrate issued an arrest warrant on Jayasekara and several local politicians over their alleged involvement in the shooting incident at a venue of an election rally of President Maithripala Sirisena who was the common opposition candidate at that time. A political supporter, who was engaged in decorating an election stage, was wounded in the shooting and succumbed to injuries in hospital on January 8.

The arrested individual will be produced before the Pelmadulla Magistrate, today (21).
