The National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA.DA) will conduct a genetic testing in connection with the blue-coloured sea creatures that reportedly identified as the blue bottle jellyfish which were found on the shores of the Southern and Western Provinces.

The public are also cautioned to remain vigilant when bathing in seas in the South and West in Sri Lanka due to this reason.

The Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) has also requested the public and tourists to avoid western, south-western and southern coastal areas as far as possible, as the jellyfish population has increased in these areas due to the south-western monsoons.

The Polhena beach in Matara and along the Southern coast has also been declared out of bounds for local and foreign tourists due to the presence of stinging jellyfish in the sea.
