Enjoining order issued against GMOA election

The Mount Lavinia District Court today issued an enjoining order restraining holding the election of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, which was slated to take place on Saturday (June 27).

The case was supported before the District Court Judge Sahan Mapa Bandara, who granted the Enjoining Order.

The plaintiffs were represented by Upul Kumarapperuma with Udumbara Dasanayaka and Anjana Rathnasiri, instructed by Thushari Jayawardhana. The next hearing date is on 09th of July 2015.

Speaking to Ada Derana, attorney-at-law Upul Kumarapperuma stated that the court issued the order after considering the facts presented on certain irregularities, said to have occurred in relation to the scheduled election.

The petition had been filed with the court challenging the conducting of the GMOA election, citing alleged malpractices by certain groups pertaining to the election.

It is learned that incumbent GMOA President Dr. Anurudda Padeniya is expected to re-contest the election.
