The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) on Sunday (05) described the President’s decision to grant nominations for the former President to contest under the UPFA ticket as the ‘greatest betrayal’ in the recent past.
The observation was made by JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva at a press conference held in Colombo.
“With the move to give nomination for the former President, President Maithripala Sirisena has betrayed the public. Specially, those who voted for his at the January polls,” Tilvin Silva said.
He also pointed out that not only the voters but Sirisena has also betrayed his allies who assisted him to become the president at the last election.
A statement issued by the UPFA General Secretary Susil Premajayantha on Friday (03) states that as discussed at the UPFA party leaders’ meeting, a decision has been taken to give nominations to the former President to contest the 2015 General Election under the UPFA ticket. The UPFA party leaders’ meeting was chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena, who is the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and leader of the UPFA.
