I will quit politics if Mahinda gets a vote more than me – Sujeewa

Former Deputy Minister of Justice Sujeewa Senasinghe today vowed to leave politics forever, if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa obtains even a single vote more than him at the forthcoming General Election.

Speaking at an event in Hokandara, he stated that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s one brother was Defence Minister, the other was Economic Minister while his son was “Minister of everyone.”

Senasinghe stated that there has never been a leader in the history of any country who has been humiliated as Mahinda Rajapaksa has been. “Who sits for O/Ls after they have passed A/Ls?”

The former Deputy Minister stated that he never wants a political career similar to that. “I swear that if I lose one election I will never contest an election again in my life.”

“Politics is not a business. It is a public service. You can do it as long as the people like and if not you have to go home and tend to some crops,” he said.

He stated that the people now have to decide whether they “bury the corps or exhume it” on August 17.

Issuing a challenge, Senasinghe stated that he would garner 100,000 votes more than Mahinda Rajapaksa at the General Election, no matter which district the latter contests from.

“If Mahinda Rajapaksa gets even one preference vote more than me, I will quit politics,” he declared.

He stated that nowadays Mahinda Rajapaksa is being challenged by “small fellows” like Sujeewa Senasinghe and that back in the day it was the likes of Ranil Wickremesinghe and Premadasa.

“The organizer of a quarter of the Kaduwela seat is challenging the country’s former President,” he said jokingly.

Senasinghe stated that Mahinda Rajapaksa is not contesting from his hometown district of Hambantota, because he is afraid of Sajith Premadasa.
