A group of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members including several Ministers are preparing to contest the upcoming General Election separately and not from the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), political sources told Ada Derana.

Prominent members such as Rajitha Senaratne, Hirunika Premachandra, Arjuna Ranatunga, Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Hemal Gunasekera, Neomal Perera, M.K.D.S. Gunawardana, Wijaya Dahanayake, Earl Gunasekara, Sarath Amunugama and Duminda Dissanayake are reportedly not keen on contesting from the UPFA.

Sources say that a section of this group is discussing the possibility of contesting with the United National Party (UNP), while said discussions are currently already underway.

However, speaking on this matter former MP Manusha Nanayakkara stated that this group would likely contest from the newly-formed United National Front for Good Governance led by Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

When contacted by Ada Derana, Minister of Health Dr Rajitha Senaratne said that although certain discussions underway, he is unable to elaborate on the matter as of now.
