Those who cannot defeat MR want his security reduced: NFF

A plan is underway to put the former President’s life in danger through reducing his security, Spokesman of the National Freedom Front (NFF), Mohammed Muzammil, said.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo on Monday (20).

He pointed out that it was upon a request from the intelligence that the government had to assign more security personal for the former President’s security detail, not due to a political influence.

“His life is in danger according to the intelligence sources. Those who cannot defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa at the political arena are behind this drama,” Muzammil added.

Earlier, a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition was submitted to the Supreme Court seeking a directive to reduce the security provided to Rajapaksa, who is contesting the forthcoming parliamentary polls.

JVP candidate Attorney-at-Law Sunil Watagala also filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission (HRC) stating that due to the former President contesting the general election as a candidate, the privileges provided to him was a disadvantage to other candidates.
