The court cases filed against Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and SUsil Premajayantha have been withdrawn by Duminda Dissanayake and Prof. Vishwa Warnapala.

On August 14, President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Chairman of the SLFP and UPFA removed Yapa and Premajayantha from the posts of General Secretaries of the two parties.

Dissanayake was later appointed as the Acting General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Prof. Warnapala as Acting General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

Consequently Duminda Dissanayake and Prof. Warnapala sought an enjoining order to prevent the former General Secretaries from carrying out duties in their former capacities.

The Colombo District Court issued an enjoining order preventing Yapa and Premajayantha from acting and discharging duties as the General Secretaries of the SLFP and UPFA respectively until today (August 28).

Premajayantha tendered his resignation as UPFA General Secretary on Tuesday (25) while Prof. Warnapala officially assumed duties as the new General Secretary the following day.
