Ex-DIG admitted to Colombo National hospital

Former DIG Vass Gunawardena, who is in custody following the murder case of Bambalapitiya businessman Mohamed Shyam, has been admitted to the Colombo National hospital following a sudden illness, Ada Derana Court reporter said.


The former DIG likely suffered a cardiac arrest when he was brought to the court this morning, according to the reporter.


The ex-DIG was arrested after the body of the businessman with gunshot injuries was found in Dompe on 2013, May 26. The police have identified the deceased as 35-year-old, Mohammed Shyam, a resident of Wellawatte. 


Earlier, The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the Court that Ravindu Gunawardena, the son of former DIG, had also involved in the murder. The CID arrested Ravindu Gunawardena on 2013, August 7.
