UPFA MP Padma Udayashantha Gunasekara has been hospitalized due to a sudden illness while participating in a protest in the Monaragala area today.

The Parliamentarian was admitted to the Moneragala Hospital while arrangements are being made to transfer him to Colombo, the Hospital Director told Ada Derana.

Gunasekara is a member of National Freedom Front (NFF) led by ex-Minister Wimal Weerawansa and was elected to Parliament after contesting the general election from the UPFA ticket.

The Monaragala District MP was taking part in a protest staged by a group of residents demanding a solution for the spread of hepatitis in the area.

Several shops in the Monaragala Town observed a Harthal in support of the protest, which had also demanded clean water from authorities while citing the water supply as the source for the possible hepatitis outbreak.
