Merging EPF and ETF: Govt. clarifies its stance

The government on Monday (09) dismissed reports that there is a move to privatize the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Employees’ Trust Fund (ETF). 


Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha de Silva said that the government however will introduce a new national pension scheme by merging the EPF and the ETF.


The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo.


“For the new national pension scheme, a Board of Directors will be appointed through the Constitutional Council,” Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera said. He also added that the fund will be monitored by the Public Wealth Trust.
