This is not an attack against me, but against our culture: President

A social media attack has been waged against me about my comments in connection with a recent concert by a pop star in Colombo, President Maithripala Sirisena says.

The observation was made at an event held in Colombo today (29).

“This is not an attack against me, but it will be an attack on our culture and civility,” said President Sirisena.

“Those who give a high priority to protect what is ours are always rewarded with more blames,” President Sirisena added.

President Sirisena said on Sunday that organisers of the recent concert by the pop star in Colombo should be “whipped with toxic stingray tails” because it was “uncivilised.”

The Dec 20 concert in the Sri Lankan capital saw ecstatic local women running on stage to hug and kiss the “Hero” singer while others threw their underwear at him.

“This is most uncivilised behaviour that goes against our culture,” the President said. “I don’t advocate that these uncivilised women who removed their brassieres should be beaten with toxic stingray tails, but those who organised such an event should be,” he added.
