Election win unsure if President backs UNP- Dilum

As long as the President maintains a friendly relationship with the United National Party (UNP), the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will not be able to win the forthcoming local government election, Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama says.

The observation was made at a press conference held in Colombo this morning (21).

He pointed out that time has come for President Maithripala Sirisena to raise his voice against the UNP.

Amunugama also warned the SLFPers to get ready to face the defeat at the polls, if they refrain from getting the support of the former President to handle the election campaign.

However, during a recent interview with an Indian newspaper, the President responding to a question “Has your relationship with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was in the rival camp until November 2014, grown closer? How do you feel about working with him?” said that he is very close with the PM and extremely satisfied about working with him.
