A warrant has been issued by the Galle Magistrate’s Court for the arrest of Chief Minister of Southern Province Shan Wijayalal de Silva, Ada Derana reporter said.

The warrant was issued by Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura on Wednesday (03) morning as the Chief Minister failed to appear before the court in connection with an election violation case.

However, an Attorney-at-Law who appeared on behalf of the Chief Minister apprised the Magistrate that his client is currently on an overseas tour.

The case has been filed by the Akmeemana police against Wijayalal for allegedly threatening a group of postal voters during the last Presidential election.
