February 25, 2016   02:10 pm

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka took oath as the Cabinet Minister for Regional Development a short while ago before the President.

Fonseka took oath before President Maithripala Sirisena at the President’s house in Colombo.

Fonseka was appointed as a Member of Parliament before Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on February 9. This came after the UNP signed a collective agreement with the Democratic Party (DP) led by the former Army Commander at Temple Trees in Colombo. The agreement was signed by Fonseka as the leader of the Democratic Party and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the UNP leader.
