Death toll in tipper-trishaw collision climbs to four

Another person wounded following yesterday’s accident involving a tipper truck and a three-wheeler has succumbed to injuries bringing the total death from the fatal crash to four persons including two children. 

Three persons died en route to hospital after a three-wheeler transporting 7 persons collided head-on with a tipper truck near Welmilla along the Bandaragama - Kesbewa road on Monday (Feb. 29).

A four-year-old boy, a six-year-old girl and a twelve-year-old boy were among those who died shortly after the accident while another nineteen-year-old youth has also succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Bandaragama Hospital. 

Two women and a man had sustained critical injuries from the crash and have been transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment. 

The deceased and wounded have been identified as residents of Bandaragama-Welmilla, Kesbewa-Isurupura and Boralegamuwa-Egodawatta Road.

The driver of the tipper truck has been arrested over the incident, police said.

The postmortem examinations are to be performed today (1).
