SLFP was powerless during previous Government’s term - CBK

In spite of being the ruling party, the SLFP was powerless during the previous Government’s term, former President Chandrika Kumaratunga says.

The observation was made while speaking at an event held in Neluwa, Galle this afternoon (27).

Kumaratunga pointed out it was certain individuals who were behind the crucial decisions, not the party. “And that did not represent party’s policies as well,” she added.

Kumaratunga also went on to say the party now functions smoothly however while working together with the ruling United National Party (UNP).

The former President also severely criticised the previous Government for directly interfering in the independence of judiciary.
