60 workers begin protest inside Kahatagaha mine

Approximately 60 workers attached to the Kahatagaha graphite mine are protesting inside the mine demanding a New Year bonus, Police Spokesman told Ada Derana.

The group of workers had commenced the protest inside the mine last evening against the decision not to give a bonus of Rs 15,000 to workers which had been provided in previous years. 

Meanwhile the administration of the Kahatagaha graphite mine says that the Labour Commissioner is scheduled to arrive for a discussion on the matter after being notified of the protest. 

Around 100 workers usually work inside the mine while 60 of them are currently engaged in theprotest.
