Man remanded over death threats to President on Facebook

The individual who was arrested upon arrival in the country, for allegedly issuing death threats to President Maithripala Sirisena on a social networking website, has been remanded till May 06 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court. 

Sugath Kumara Lakmana was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday after arriving from Malaysia and produced before court today by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). 

Presenting a report to the court, the CID requested that the suspect be remanded as further investigations were required. 

Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammed Mihal ordered that he be remanded till May 06 and called for a report on the progress of the investigation on that date.
