Land reclamation in Colombo district prohibited

President Maithripala Sirisena has declared all flood and landslide affected areas as high security areas, the PMD said .
Land reclamation in Colombo district has also been prohibited with immediate effect.
To assess the damage and speed up relief and resettlement work, the President has set up a Special Task Force.
The money value of the damage caused by the floods in Colombo and the landslides in Aranayake in Kegalle district is estimated at US$ 2 billion, according to Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake.
The government will be able to foot the bill partially through an insurance amounting to LKR 10 billion, he added. (With inputs from NIE)
