The Colombo Chief Magistrate today ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to expedite the investigation regarding former minister Wimal Weerawansa’s wife Shashi Weerawansa, who has been charged with obtaining a diplomatic passport by providing false documents.

Shashi Weerawansa appeared before the court when the case was taken up for hearing today (May 27).

The CID informed the court that the report of the investigator authenticating the suspicious documents has still not been received.

The case was postponed till September 28 while the magistrate ordered the CID to submit a report on the progress of the investigation on that date.
