Police use teargas to disperse protest at Fort

Police use water cannon and teargas and to disperse a group of Kelaniya University students who were protesting at Lotus Road, Fort. The students were conducting the protest defying a Court order.

 

The protest march organized by the Inter University Students’ Federation against the arrest and remanding of a group of Kelaniya University students. The protest march was scheduled to start from the Technical Junction and go up to the Presidential Secretariat.

 

However Police had obtained a Court order preventing the students from marching to the Presidential Secretariat. The protestors defying the order had proceeded to march to the Secretariat at which point Police have used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protest.
