DV Upul released on bail over assault charge

Southern Provincial Council Minister D.V. Upul, who was arrested after he surrendered to police over an assault incident, has been released on bail by the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court.   

He was ordered released on two personal bails of Rs 500,000 each after being produced at court today (25), police said. 

A complaint had been lodged with police accusing a group of individuals including the provincial minister of assaulting an individual identified as T.M. Premadasa of Pallemalla in Hambantota on June 15. 

Three suspects were previously arrested and produced at court over the incident while they had been released on personal bails of Rs 100,000 each.
