Over 18,000 locations were inspected for mosquito breeding grounds during day one of the three-day dengue eradication programme implemented by the Ministry of Health.

The programme commenced on Thursday (June 30) and will end on Saturday (June 02).

Accordingly, inspections were carried out yesterday in a total of 18,055 locations in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Matale and Kandy which have been identified as districts with a high risk for dengue mosquitoes to spread.

Steps have been taken to file cases against 139 individuals for maintaining environments suitable for the breeding of dengue mosquitoes in their private properties.

The Ministry of Health said that notices were issued on another 853 persons.

The Dengue Eradication Unit has identified 10 districts in the country with a prevailing dengue epidemic situation.
