Joint Opposition mulls no-confidence against Mangala

July 10, 2016   02:28 pm

The “Joint Opposition” says that they intend to table a motion of no-confidence against the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera in the near future.

UPFA MP Udaya Gammanpila said that despite President Maithripala Sirisena clearly stating that no foreign judges will be involved in the justice mechanism which will investigate allegations of human rights violations, the foreign minister is of a different opinion.

Therefore we are looking into the possibility of bringing a no-confidence motion against the Foreign Affairs Minister in the future, he said.

The Joint Opposition’s last no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake was defeated at the Parliament with a majority of 94 votes in June.
