Two held with foreign currency worth Rs 35 million

Two persons have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle undeclared foreign currency worth over Rs 35 million out of the country.

The two suspects, aged 49 and 35, were preparing to board a flight to Singapore this morning when they were arrested by officers of the airport customs, deputy director of customs Parakrama Basnayake said. 

He said that the foreign currency was found concealed inside ornamental flower vases which were in their luggage. 

Airport customs is conducting an investigation.
