Poll on VAT to be a loyalty test- Gammanpila

August 8, 2016   04:27 pm

The parliamentary poll on the bill on proposed Value Added Tax (VAT) hike will be a decider to review the loyalty of SLFP ministers, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila says.

The observation was made while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this morning (08).

He went on to say the poll would decide whether they are loyal to President Maithripala Sirisena or to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Gammanpila pointed out that the SLFP ministers should vote against the bill as the President has given a vow not to impose any tax that would be a burden on the people during a meeting at Polonnaruwa.

“They would only intend to vote in favor of the bill, if they extend support to the Prime Minister,” he told reporters.
