Dullas resigns from Matara District SLFP leader post

UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma says he will resign from the Matara District SLFP leadership post.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo, he said that the relevant letter has been sent to President Maithripala Sirisena, who is also the leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

The former minister stated that he decided to resign from the position in wake of the party’s treatment towards senior members of the SLFP.

Alahapperuma said he would commit himself to better serve the people of the country after resigning from the position.

President Sirisena had recently appointed new SLFP organizers to electorates and districts.

However, prominent party members such as Pavithra Wanniarachchi, C. B. Ratnayake, Mahinda Yapa, Keheliya Rambukwella, Jagath Balasuriya, and Gamini Lokuge were removed from their organizer posts and replaced with new members.

He termed the sacking of party seniors from organizer posts as ‘political sacrifices’ and claimed that 13 such sacrifices have been made thus far.

Alahapperuma charged that the party is being dragged to the brink of destruction through the sacking of individuals with large voter base from the party and that this is a contract of the UNP.
