The army intelligence officer who was accused over the assault on the former editor of the Rivira newspaper, Upali Tennakoon, has been identified by the veteran journalist and his wife in the identification parade at the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court today.

Ada Derana reporter said that the identification parade was held today before Gampaha Acting Magistrate Mahesh Herath with the presence of Tennakoon, his wife and another eye witness.

The senior journalist and his wife had left the country following the incident which had taken place on September 23, 2009.

Speaking to reporters outside the court premises, Mr Tennakoon said that a proper investigation had not been carried out at the time the assault incident took place and that he welcomes the fact that investigations are being conducted at least now.

He stated that the assault was carried out by four individuals and that the remaining suspects are probably at large and therefore security cannot be guaranteed a 100%.
