Wild elephant attack on van: death toll climbs to 2

A five-year-old boy who was critically wounded following wild elephant attack on a van in the Karuwalagaswewa area this morning has succumbed to injuries bringing the death toll from the incident to two.  

The boy was transferred from the Puttalam Hospital to the Colombo National Hospital following the incident and was receiving treatment when he succumbed to injuries there. 

One person was killed and another 10 were injured after a wild elephant attacked a van at Karuwalagaswewa on the Puttalam-Anuradhapura road at around 2.20am today (27) near the Mee Oya Bridge. 

The wounded persons were rushed to the hospital following the attack, however one of them had succumbed to injuries on the way. 

The deceased is a 39-year-old resident of Point Pedro Road, Jaffna. They were reportedly traveling to the airport in order to leave for Canada.
