Man gets capital punishment over murder and rape of 6-year-old girl

A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court while two accused were acquitted over a murder and rape of a 6-year-old girl in Kirulapone.


The judgment was delivered when the case was taken up for hearing before High Court Judge Kusala Sarojini this afternoon (25), Ada Derana reporter said. The accused had been indicted on charges of murdering and raping the girl in July, 2012.


Kirulapone police launched investigations into the incident and had initially arrested three teenagers, aged 18 and 16, living in close proximity to the victim’s house.


Police discovered the body of the 6-year-old girl which was dumped in a drainage canal in Kirulapone on 1 July.
