Navy arrest 2 local fishermen engaged in illegal fishing

Naval personnel attached to SLNS Vijaya located in Kalpitiya in the North Western Naval Command apprehend 2 local fishermen who engaged in illegal fishing activities using a monofilament net.

The navy intercepted the boat while patrolling off Pullupiddi island area in Puttalam Lagoon today (27). 

In addition to that a dinghy and a monofilament net which they used were taken into the naval custody, navy said.

The apprehended persons and items handed over to Assistant Directorate of Fisheries, Puttalam for further investigations.
