Addressing a press conference in Colombo, he stated that a three-member committee has been appointed to look into the matter.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board announced on Saturday that the water tariff will be increased by 30 per cent on average with effect from December 01, 2016.

Water Board Chairman K. A. Ansar said stated that low-income households, religious institutions and schools will be exempted from this tariff hike, which is taking place after 4 years.

He said that the water tariff is increased every 3 years, however the water utility tariff was last revised in 2012.
