Rakna Lanka to be liquidated

The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to liquidate Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd (RALL), the commercial security firm functioning under the purview of the Ministry of Defence.

The services provided by the company are to be assigned to the Civil Security Department (CSD) and the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), according to co-cabinet spokesman Dr Rajitha Senaratne.

“The proposal made by President Maithripala Sirisena, in his capacity as the Minister of Defence to assign the task of providing security in land to the Civil Security Department and in the sea to the Sri Lanka Navy and to proceed with the liquidation of the company according to the guidance of the Attorney General was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers,” he said.

The Rakna Arakshaka Lanka was established as a government affiliated security service to provide security to special institutions such as economic targets, public institutions and private institutions considering the then situation in the country as army officers who provided such security had to be deployed in process of maintaining law and order in the country.

With the present peaceful situation in the country it has been observed that such a firm is unnecessary, the government said.
