The service of a Chief Inspector attached to the Panadura Police station has been suspended with immediate effect, the police said on Thursday.

The decision has been taken following a directive issued by the IGP after three firearms at the Panadura Police station went missing, an official said.

However, two firearms were found after a police investigation and the other one is still missing, it was reported.

The further investigation into the incident is being carried out with the inspection of a senior police officer in the Panadura police division.
