A leading underworld member known as Udammita Samare has been shot dead in Veyangoda, the police said.
An unknown gunman has opened fire at the vehicle of the victim and had fled the scene soon after the shooting, according to police.
Another person who was injured during the shooting was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. An investigation is underway to identify the suspect.
