The government says that around 90 percent of the victims of the Salawa ammunition dump explosion have been compensated as of December 31, 2016.

The government had allocated Rs. 1,329 million to settle the compensation for the victims and Rs. 1,041 million out of that have been given as compensation by December 31.

According to the Secretary of the Disaster Management Ministry S.S. Miyanawala, there was a small delay in giving compensations to the rest of victims due the issues prevailing in the valuation process of some residences.

However, they will also be settled soon, he was quoted as saying by the Government Information Department.

Meanwhile, the temporary business places being built by the Urban Development Authority for the destroyed ventures are also expected to be handed over to the relevant persons by the end of February. The ministry has granted necessary money last week
