President Maithripala Sirisena is obliged to abolish the Executive Presidency as vowed, Minister Lakshman Kiriella says.

He expressed this view while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo on Wednesday.

“President Sirisena is also of the view that the Executive Presidency should be abolished. He never mentioned he has an intention to retain it,” he said.
“All the main parties also hold the opinion that the Executive Presidency should be abolished,” he said.

Kiriella also underlined the United National Party (UNP) was able to secure victory at polls which gave access to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to be a part of the new government.
