Uni students arrested over protest march remanded

A group of 7 university students including four Buddhist monks, arrested in connection with yesterday’s protest at the Kollupitiya junction, have been remanded till January 26 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Police said that the arrested suspects, including a female university student, were ordered remanded after they were produced before the court today (20).
The university students were arrested by Kollupitiya Police at the court premises and produced before the magistrate.
Police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the university students engaged in a protest march blocking the road at the Kollupitiya Junction last evening.
The protest march was organized by the Inter University Students’ Federation.
