Govt will go down in history as first to rob Central Bank - Bandula

Former minister Bandula Gunawardena says that a “revolutionary change” did occur through the unity government’s 100-day programme and that change was the Central Bank bond scam.

Addressing the Joint Opposition’s rally in Nugegoda on Friday (27), he stated this government will go down in history as the first government to rob the Central Bank.

The UPFA MP said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the leader who brought forth the country’s economically most successful period since independence.

He said that everything achieved by Rajapaksa was turned upside down by the present government of Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Professor G.L. Peiris, who also addressed gathering, said that incumbent President Maithripala Sirisena will go down in political history as the great leader who defeated his own party.

He said that therefore it is important that the Mahinda Rajapaksa era is brought back.

The former foreign minister also said that they will not accept the invitations to join certain groups.

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader MP Udaya Gammanpila said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is ready to begin the “second struggle for independence” and to save the country from the “puppet government.”

He called on the masses to rally behind Rajapaksa for this struggle to save the motherland.

Former deputy minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, better known as Karuna Amman, also addressed the gathering in Nugegoda. Karuna said that he is a person who shows gratitude and that therefore he will show his gratitude to the former President.

He called on everyone to do the same for the “leader who saved the nation.”
