Minister S.B. Dissanayake has congratulated the Chairman of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) Dr. Neville Fernando after Tuesday’s Appellate Court ruling.

While speaking to reporters in Colombo, Dissanayake also went on to say it was him who granted permission to the SAITM, though a gazette, to issue degrees in the first place.

“There are over 400,000 students in international schools in Sri Lanka. There are not eligible to enter into state universities,” he underlined.

The South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) is legally eligible to issue medical degrees, the Court of Appeal has ruled. The Appellate Court has also directed the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to give provisional registration to medical students passing out from SAITM.
