The Auditor General is obliged to directly answer to the Parliament, Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara says.

The Minister went on to say the Auditor General should directly communicate with the Parliament on state issues, and he cannot simply leak out information.

He expressed this view while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo on Thursday.

Jayasekara also underlined the Auditor General should act independently and the government would not hesitate to ensure his security.

He said that so far the Auditor General has acted independently however; the authorities can take action if he intends to change his stance.

“The Joint Opposition should not worry. We won’t take any action against him,” he added.
