Gotabaya responsible for making Colombo a clean city – SB

Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare S. B. Dissanayake says that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was responsible for transforming Colombo into a really clean city. 

Addressing the gathering during a foundation stone laying ceremony in Rikillagaskada today (3), he stated that except for Japan no other Asian country has a city as clean as Colombo.  

He stated that the cleanness of Colombo city should be replicated across the country and that cities need to be kept clean without littering with even a piece of paper. Dissanayake said that if the people living in cities are ready for this, he is prepared give his utmost support for this purpose. 

He said that out of the countries in the world, Asian countries including India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are considered as “garbage dumps” and that Sri Lanka should continue forward with this cleanliness. 

The minister said that is the reason President Maithripala Sirisena in his capacity as the Minister of Environment is working with extra emphasis on this.
