The Joint Opposition on Tuesday accused the government of maintaining contacts with the underworld figures.

JO MP Dullas Alahapperuma made the observation while speaking to reporters at a press conference held in Colombo.

He pointed out with the present situation, certain underworld figures who had fled the country during the previous government have returned.

“The government maintains direct contacts with them,” he said.

Alahapperuma also pointed out, this circumstance poses a threat to the safety of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
